Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses magnetism and radio waves to produce highly detailed images of structures within the body. Woodstock Hospital’s MRI is a state of the art 1.5 Tesla magnet boasting a short scanner length with a wide opening. This means more space in the MRI for our patients, increasing comfort levels and reducing anxiety due to claustrophobia concerns.
MRI examinations at Woodstock Hospital include imaging of the: brain and spinal cord; internal organs of the abdomen and pelvis; joints and musculoskeletal structures throughout the body; assessment of lumps and bumps; and intravenous contrast examinations.
MRI is a very safe exam. MRI uses no ionizing radiation (x-rays, gamma rays) and has no known lasting effects on the body. The strong magnetic field may be a safety concern for people who have specific implanted metallic devices; therefore MRI technologists will ask many questions about your medical history to assure your safety in the MRI environment. Patients with Pacemakers will not be allowed into the MRI. Loud noises are produced while obtaining images, therefore hearing protection will be provided. Scan times vary depending on the exam requested and range from approximately 15 to 60 minutes.
After your exam is complete, the Radiologist will interpret the exam and the results will be sent to your Physician within 3 to 5 working days
