For the past three years we have diverted over 30% of our general waste including the diversion of operating room linen wraps, organic waste, air filter recycling and using reusable totes for receiving supplies, eliminating excess packaging at the source. We are also proud to be the recipient of a Recycling Council of Ontario (RCO) Award for outstanding results in recycling and waste diversion and a Green Hospital of the Year finalist.
WH’S waste diversion (30% of our general waste):
- OR Linen Wraps Program – diverts 4.45 tonnes of plastic each year
- Organics Waste Program – diverts 3.5 tonnes each year
- Air Filter Recycling Program – diverts 0.6 tonnes each year
- Reusable totes used for receiving supplies, eliminating excess packaging at the source
Our vendors play a major role in ensuring we continue to reduce our carbon footprint. Woodstock Hospital’s Environmental Advisory Committee invited representatives from our various vendors to share their green initiatives in our cafeteria on Earth Day. Other stewards of environmental responsibility were also at our hospital to share their expertise and stewardship, including the City of Woodstock and Mayor Trevor Birtch.
